Opening for White Lies was a Southern California, Costa Mesa band, Japanese Motors. These guys would have been a good college party band who had fun onstage but didn't do much to warm-up the crowd.
As for White Lies, the initial comparisons to Joy Division and Ian Curtis held true. Their darker, synth-pop-rock got the crowd dancing during the short 40 minute set that included their current single, "Death".

Unfortunately, last night was their last night in the US for a while, as they've returned to tour Europe for a bit. Be sure to check them out if and when they come to your town.
