White Lies @ Rickshaw Stop (11/1/08)

Kevin Keating
Last night was my first time visiting the Rickshaw Stop to check out the 3-piece British band, White Lies. I'd first heard of them after their performance at this years' Lollapalooza in Chicago. As it turns out, the band has been busy over the summer hitting the large US/UK festivals including the Reading and Leeds festival.

Opening for White Lies was a Southern California, Costa Mesa band, Japanese Motors. These guys would have been a good college party band who had fun onstage but didn't do much to warm-up the crowd.

As for White Lies, the initial comparisons to Joy Division and Ian Curtis held true. Their darker, synth-pop-rock got the crowd dancing during the short 40 minute set that included their current single, "Death".

Here's the video for "Death":

Unfortunately, last night was their last night in the US for a while, as they've returned to tour Europe for a bit. Be sure to check them out if and when they come to your town.
