The Bay Area's own Black Map kicked off a month-long string of shows along the west coast in support of Chicago's alt-rockers, Chevelle, at the sold-out Fillmore last night. Black Map's new album, In Droves (iTunes) is due out on March 10th, so the band teased the crowd with a few new songs, including their first single and video below "Run Rabbit Run".

As usual, the trio made up of Ben Flanagan (vocals/bass), Mark Engles (guitar), and Chris Robyn (drums) worked the crowd into a sweaty mess with their driving rhythms and punch-to-the-gut drumming; Chevelle couldn't have asked for a better opener. And 2017 could be Black Map's breakout year, so be sure to catch this show if you're lucky enough to live along the tour route.

For those not aware, Mark Engles is also a member of the (currently on hiatus) band Dredg, who's other members, Gavin Hayes and Drew Roulette, were spotted in the audience during the show. Depending on Mark's other commitments and the success of In Droves, could this mean that we might hear new music from Dredg later this year? Here's hoping!

For Chevelle, they too put on a great show last night, playing songs across their 8-album catalog and supporting their 2016 release, The North Corridor (iTunes). The highlight of their set came with from their 2002 hit single, "The Red", which lead singer Pete Loeffler turned into a sing-along with the crowd and the energy was palpable.
