Review - Monster Energy's Aftershock Festival @ Discovery Park in Sacramento (10/21-22/17)

Monster Energy's Aftershock 2017
The sixth annual Aftershock Festival concluded today in Sacramento's Discovery Park. The 2-day metal fest featured 34 bands across 3 stages in front of a total crowd of 50,000 people. Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails headlined Saturday, with Zakk Wylde teaming back up with Ozzy Osbourne to close out today's show.

This year's line-up was one of the strongest yet with not only the two headliners, but a host of other established and up-and-coming bands like Mastadon, Five Finger Death Punch, Eagles of Death Metal, A Perfect Circle, and Bay Area hometown favorites, Black Map.

Beyond the music, I was amazed at how well organized the entire event was. It's rare that I attend large festivals anymore -- the parking, the crowds, the lines -- and granted, Aftershock had all those in spades, but the strength of this year's line-up justified the inconvenience of it all. I mean, really, when is the next time you'll be able to see A Perfect Circle back-to-back with Nine Inch Nails? And it was a truly impressive feat for show organizers to keep the bands on schedule throughout both days!

Overall, for me, the standouts across the two days were Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Mastodon, and Black Map; but overall, it was such a stellar line-up that you couldn't go wrong with just about any of the performances over the weekend.
